"Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." - 1 Corinthians 15:58
While unpacking boxes from a recent move, I discovered an old newspaper clipping telling the story of a dear woman who taught Sunday School for 60 years. Ruth Bullion served in a small town at a little church, but her influence was profound. Her teaching about the Lord Jesus touched the lives of hundreds of children, including my wife. Ruth said that all she tried to teach children was that, "Jesus loved them, and had given them a purpose in life, and if they fulfilled that calling, God would use them."
We may think there's not much significance to what we do, but the Bible reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15, ". . . stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." Part of God's grace to us is that no matter what He gives us to do, He will use it for His glory.
The ministry of Ruth Bullion lives on as her former Sunday School pupils, like my wife, share of God's grace with the next generation. It is a legacy that has eternal impact. For as it is said in Psalm 112, "Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever."
Praise God that even feeble efforts in obedience can be used by the Lord.
